Minister States MoD Investigating Potential Threat from Vehicles from China, with Staff Advised to Refrain from Secret Talk in Vehicles.

An defense official has confirmed that the Ministry of Defence is currently examining the potential threats associated with Chinese cars, and staff have been told to avoid talking about secret matters in all cars.

Safety Guidance for Defence Personnel

In a recent appearance on a radio station, a defence minister commented on reports that Ministry of Defence staff have been instructed not to discuss classified material while riding in Chinese vehicles.

He stated that the ministry is “examining” cars from China within its fleets, but noted that safety is a concern in all modern cars.

We have a collection of thousands of vehicles in the MoD and Chinese ones account for a very small number.
However whether you’re traveling in a Chinese car or a non-Chinese car, our instruction to our staff is to avoid connecting Ministry of Defence technology into their car, to avoid having conversations at a classified level in any kind of car, because of the increasing risks of eavesdropping that exist in all vehicle, to restrict those confidential talks in protected areas. This is a wise and reasonable thing for everyone worried about safety.

After it was suggested that it would be prudent for the MoD to stop using all cars from China, Pollard replied: ‘That’s precisely what we’re investigating at the moment.”

Broader Security Context

This announcement comes as reports from Scandinavian countries have warned the United Kingdom to the presence of multi-purpose shutdown mechanisms in Chinese-made buses, which could allow the Chinese government to switch off public transport and bring disruption to transport systems.

Furthermore, a Russia intelligence vessel has been shining laser beams at Royal Air Force aircrew, labeled a “highly dangerous” action by defence officials.

The broader security environment underscores the significance of strong protocols and caution in every aspects of official operations, from transport usage to communication practices.
